Consultation

IFP Media Arts staff regularly meet with members to discuss projects.  Topics include script, fundraising, marketing, screenings, production, technical advice, business start-ups and other angles unique to each project.

These meetings are free and open to IFP Media Arts members only.  Members call the specific staff person they wish to meet and set up an appointment.  Meetings last up to one hour.

Our staff have found these meetings to be  useful for the filmmaker – especially in terms of steps or directions to take a project to the next level.  There are times, however, when our staff doesn’t have the answers.  On these occasions, members turn to the “IFP Media Arts Consultations Program.”

Here’s how it works:

A fee for service, members can have exclusive access to a consultant in an area where assistance is needed.  We have consultants with a broad range of expertise.

The fee for a consultation is $60 an hour, well below market rate, and the first half hour is free.  If you are seeking advice in terms of contacts, resources, agreements, production schedule, technical aspects of your project or distribution, this route is highly recommended.

To make an appointment, just follow these easy steps:

 1.  Contact IFP MN Membership Director Jakk Netland at word@ifpmn.org to let her know you’re interested in a consultation, and with whom. Include information about your project or the topic of your consultation.

2.  Erik will contact the consultant.  He will provide your contact information to set up an appointment, with an estimate of how long the first meeting will be.

3.  All meetings will be pre-paid by the member, based on the estimated time for the meeting.  An invoice will be sent to you, payable upon receipt.  If a meeting is not paid for by the set time of the meeting, the meeting will be cancelled.

4.  Meetings can take place at IFP MN during business hours, based on room availability.

5.  If you are not a member of IFP MN when you call for a consultation meeting, you can sign up at this time.

6.  Bring materials related to your project to the meeting, including script, treatment, budget, trailer, confirmed personnel or cast….anything that may be helpful to the consultant in understanding the subject matter.

7.  Feedback–do let us know if this is a helpful program for you!
