“Over the many years that I have been a member at IFP (and its predecessors), I have had the opportunity to create many images and hone my skills as a traditional B&W photographer. Without the affordable facilities available to the public, I would never have had these opportunities. IFP is not just a valuable resource – it is a community for all peoples involved in film and photography.” –E. Katie Holm
Just bring your current MCP membership card into IFP, schedule a darkroom orientation session to get to know our gear, and you're off and printing again. Your darkroom privileges will cover you through December 31st, 2008. And if you like us, we hope you'll renew as an IFP Minnesota member in 2009. For more details, call Paul or Micah at 651.644.1912.
__________
Becoming a member of IFP Minnesota is a key step in advancing
your knowledge and capacity as an independent filmmaker,
photographer, or screenwriter. No matter the level of
experience as a media artist, membership in IFP Minnesota
means becoming a part of a vibrant, nurturing community
of over 500 other artists in the Midwest, each utilizing
IFP's resources to create their own unique vision. The
individuals that make up IFP MN's membership are as varied
as the artistic expressions they create: experienced filmmakers
and photographers, emerging mid-career artists, media
professionals, film and photography school graduates,
students and hobbyists. For assistance in education, access,
consultation, and networking, IFP is the catalyst you'll
need in seeing your project through from conception to
exhibition.
Program Overview: One-Stop Shop
for Media Artists:
We are the only organization in the Central United States
that offers such a spectrum of programs and services for
independent filmmakers and photographers at such a low
cost.
Education Program:
IFP MN offers over 25 classes per quarter on various aspects
of filmmaking, screenwriting, and photography for beginner
through mid-career artists. Classroom instructors are
working professionals who bring years of expertise to
their classrooms.
Access Center and Facility Rental:
Our equipment room is stocked with motion picture and
DV cameras, tripods, lighting packages, microphones, and
audio recorders, as well as still photographic cameras
and darkroom equipment that members can rent at well below
local vendor costs. The Center also features a digital
edit suite complete with the latest video editing, sound,
web design and other media arts software.
Funding Initiatives:
Re-granting and funding initiatives provided by IFP MN
have provided on an annual basis very tangible, financial
support for media artists. Through the McKnight
Artist Fellowships for Filmmakers and Screenwriters,
the Annual
IFP MN Access Grant for Filmmakers and Photographers,
and MNTV, IFP MN allocates more than
$125,000 to local artists each year.
Special Events:
Events sponsored by IFP MN, such as our annual Independent
Producers Conference and Screenwriters
Conference, provide local artists the opportunity
to meet top independent writers and producers from New
York and Los Angeles, and help inspire filmmakers to create
their work by defining the climate of the film and photographic
arts community in Minnesota.
Exhibition Support:
IFP MN provides very visible opportunities for local filmmakers
to screen their projects (MNTV,
Cinema Lounge)
and for photographers to exhibit their work (IFP
MN Member Photo Show and Silent Auction).
Community Partnership & Outreach:
IFP MN has long made outreach and diversity a priority
of the organization. Whether it's donating darkroom time
for emerging photographers during the Project
for Pride in Living project, or providing free
meeting space for groups like WIFT (Women
in Film and Television) to hold monthly meetings, IFP
MN continually strives to find new ways to serve our community.
