Matt Osterman and Jennifer Kramer's “Phasma Ex Machina,” an independent film written, shot, and produced in the Twin Cities, will have its world premiere on July 16th at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. Fantasia is North America’s largest genre film festival, attracting over 90,000 film-crazy attendees. While seeking to provide audiences with the most intriguing films each year, the buzz-generating festival was home to the North American premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” in 2009.

“We are honored and thrilled to have our world premiere at Fantasia,” said writer and director Matt Osterman. “We have seen tremendous support from people around the world through our website and we’re excited to present the film to this growing fan base. It’s truly an honor to represent the Minnesota film industry at the festival.” Fans can experience the trailer at www.phasmamovie.com and "Six Questions With," an ongoing series where researchers, educators, ghost hunters, and facilitators working in the paranormal field today were interviewed about their experiences and who they would bring back from the dead.

“We’re proud of how we worked every angle to create the best possible film experience,” said producer Jennifer Kramer. “The ingenuity and hard work employed by our crew and support from our community has allowed us to create this thought-provoking film.” In addition to the world premiere at Fantasia, “Phasma Ex Machina” will also screen at Another Hole in the Head Film Festival (San Francisco), in July and the Twin Cities Film Festival (Minneapolis) in September.

Rosa Maria de la Cueva Peterson’s complex black-and-white images of Minneapolis will be on display in Mayor R.T. Rybak's offices (350 S. 5th St.) from this Friday, May 28 (an opening reception will take place from 3:30-6:00 p.m.) through June 30. Rosa Maria writes, "During the last decade I have taken photographs for a project called The Quotidian: The First Decade of the New Millennium, which includes images from the United States, Canada, Bolivia, Mexico, Kenya, South Africa, India, and Australia. They are quick sketches that reflect how people live, interact, build, work in their surroundings and what it says about class and culture.

"For the images of Minneapolis I have chosen scenes that blend smoothly into the background, scenes that are too familiar for us to notice in our daily lives. A dynamic city is in constant flux. New structures engulf or replace cherished ones. What once seemed discordant becomes iconic. Successful cities bridge old and new, creating a multiplicity of intricate layers that yield a convivial aesthetic speaking of the city's origin and pointing toward the future."

Wyatt McDill and Megan Huber's Four Boxes will make its World Theatrical Premiere in Duluth at the Zinema 2 Theater May 21st – 27th, 2010. The film will tour nationally in the Fall to coincide with a Halloween release of the DVD, but Duluth will be the first place in America – outside of a festival – to get a peek at the film variously described as "The Blair Witch Project meets YouTube,” and "The sex, lies and videotape of our time.” McDill and Huber say they are thrilled to be debuting their film in Duluth: “We talk to distributors from New York and L.A. and they all know about the Zinema 2 – a truly independent movie theater like Zinema 2 is getting more and more rare. We think Duluth is lucky to have it, and we think we’re lucky to be able to show our film here. We can’t wait.” Four Boxes screens from Friday May 21st through Thursday May 27th at 7:00 pm, at the Zinema 2 Theater: 222 East Superior St. in Duluth – www.zinema2.com. The film’s director and producer will be present for Q and A on Friday the 21st after the screening.
