IFP MN Announces 2008 McKnight Screenwriting Finalists
IFP Minnesota and the McKnight Foundation are proud to announce the finalists for the 2008 Screenwriting Fellowship competition! Thirteen panelists, all from outside of Minnesota, chose seven finalists.  A separate panel will select the two winning McKnight Screenwriting Fellows in June.

MCKNIGHT SCREENWRITING FINALISTS, 2008
Ted Dewberry, “THE LAST MEAL PROJECT”
A prominent chef loses everything when his drug habit causes him to sicken customers. His punishment -- cooking last meals for death row inmates – changes him forever. The Last Meal Project is a bittersweet tale of facing inner demons and accepting redemption even at great cost.

Daniel S. Elliot, “WHEN GOD SLEEPS”
Based on actual events in the Congo in 2001, a vicious renegade leader and his child soldiers kidnap ten-year-old Jabi and his sister Musabi and force them to become child soldiers. Kate, an American relief worker, attempts to save the children and in the process loses her life.

Karen Frank, “GRAVE MATTERS”
Ally wants to make sure her sister Dani has the wedding of her dreams. Her father Leo wants to escape debt, and if he accomplishes one small task, he’s home free. Two events are on a collision course: the world’s most perfect wedding, and the world’s most imperfect grave robbery.

Daniel Laurence, “KINDRED”
A socially liberal, eccentric farmer’s wife struggles to raise her polarized “at risk” teenage sons as socially progressive young men amidst the intolerance of their remote township.

Matt Osterman, “PHASMA EX MACHINA”
A supernatural mystery with strong elements of science fiction, Phasma Ex Machina follows the lives of two brothers, a physics professor, and a detective trying to decipher an unsolved murder. Everything changes when the brothers discover that the distance between the living and the dead isn’t all that far.

Alan W. Porter, “THE SAINT OF DENMARK FALLS”
While investigating a routine accident in rural Minnesota, an African-American insurance investigator discovers that picturesque Denmark Falls may not be what it appears. He endeavors to uncover the secrets guarded by the town’s inhabitants, but when he receives bad news from home, he must choose between his marriage and solving the riddle.

Matthew Stenerson, “JUNK DRAWER”
Genevieve Odegaard, a high school junior living in Follesdal Falls, Minnesota, is struggling to make her life perfect, despite the fact that her family lives in a garbage house.
