Sneak-peak of Local Feature Bits feat. Music by Vampire Hands, Friday, August 22nd

On Friday August 22nd, Omni Kino Media, LLC is giving a onetime, sneak peak into the digital-dream world of Bits at a free, midnight screening. Bits, a Minnesota made feature film, will screen at the Uptown Theatre following a performance by the locally formed, indie-rock band “Vampire Hands.” “This is the first, and only time people will have the chance to see the film before it is packaged for the festival circuit” says Bits producer and event organizer Ben Katz. “We are excited to show our work to the community that made this film possible.”

Bits follows an awkward, intelligent inventor named Steve. His days and nights are spent working to finish his mysterious “project.” Innovation and insanity blur as he tries to create a revolutionary way for people to connect to one another. Starring: Linnea Mohn, Philip Mershon, and Nancy Waldoch. Bits is the first film by Minneapolis based FRD Productions. To create the film, an entirely local cast and crew of over 50 people relied on intuition, collaboration, and improvisation rather than traditional narrative methods. The Uptown Theatre is located at the corner of Hennepin Ave. and Lagoon in Uptown Minneapolis. Doors open 11:30 pm on August 22nd. Admittance is free of charge. For more information go to www.bitsmovie.com, or contact Ben Katz at (651) 249-4154.

2008 Minneapolis Underground Film Festival, August 29th-31st

The 2008 Minneapolis Underground Film Festival August 29-31 2008 hosted at MCAD The Minneapolis College of Art and Design promises to be an extraordinary film festival unlike any the Twin Cities has ever seen. The 2008 Minneapolis Underground Film Festival was created to give voice to filmmakers who put their heart and soul into their work often working on tiny budgets, with volunteer crew and spending their own money only to find their films rejected over and over again by film festivals. Greg Yolen, an award winning cinematographer started the festival because he was frustrated seeing these quality films go unnoticed.

The opening night film "Saila" is a world premiere from Germany. Shot in the ruins of East Berlin that includes "film history's bloodiest love scene" it promises to get the festival of to a good start. The following three days are packed full of underground films from Minneapolis and all over the world. The Minneapolis College of Art and Design will be hosting the festival from August 29th-31st and Current.com, Al Gore's television station will also be sponsoring the event and will have representatives at the festival to answer any questions as well as doing a talent search to look for producers to work for their channel. Our goal is to celebrate the creativity found in the Twin Cities. When people think of us they have no idea about how world class our artistic community is. Our hope is that our festival will grow and inspire a whole new generation of filmmakers to produce creative work that pushes their comfort level. Once they create their films they can count on us that they will be shown and seen.

Festival Director Greg Yolen is the award winning Cinematographer of "Longgone" one of the films slated to show in the festival. Longgone is an award winning documentary about modern day hobos who ride freight trains across America that is currently unavailable to be seen anywhere but the festival. Greg Yolen has travelled around the world working on different projects but chose Minneapolis as his home because of the culture and people. For More Information: Email: ttwsx102@gmail.com Contact: Greg Yolen, Minneapolis Underground Film Festival, 612-396-1080 http://www.minneapolisundergroundfilmfestival.com

Join an ad-hoc volunteer collective of doc filmmakers, camerapersons and FCP editors to videotape, edit and produce a cinema verite documentary of all the protests, person-in-the-street interviews, Delegate conversations, during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul from Sept 1-4. 2 awesome Actors needed for Short Film

I'm looking to cast 2 fabulous actors for a short film (26:00).

Female: Mature, saucy, brassy, smart, early 40's to early 50's. Married to wicked-intense owner of a garbage truck company, this character has an affair with her husband's most-despised employee (& the main character in this film.) Critical to the story is an extended, steamy/funny foreplay scene. Wardrobe for this scene: scantily-clad, like: frilly panties, high-heels, and (optional?) tiny brassiere. This character is very sexual, self-assured. She knows what she likes. (No sex, foreplay only.)

Male: This character, 38-60, is the wicked-intense owner of the garbage-truck fleet and the husband of the above character. Works in a dump. Noodles on the side. Noodling is a sport whereby grown men stand in muddy rivers and pull massive catfish out of the water with their bare hands. (I need a 60-70lb stuffed and mounted catfish! Help!) This character exists to torment his oldest employee, the mild-mannered, church-going, choir-singing Johnny Northstar. (Jon Nordstrom) This boss-man is a virtuoso slagger, a lean, wiry fount of hysterical (to himself) insults that he feeds nonstop into the radio in Johnny Northstar's garbage truck. He's his own #1 fan. Massive fist-fight scene involved.

This will be shot in the usual mind-numbing way of the indie: a day here and a day there. Some this year, some next. Help me create these characters! No $, just good experience. Professional crew. Please contact Tim McCusker at iamnnv@yahoo.com. Send photos and/or history. Thank you!
